Martha Graham Technique - Workshop by Penny Diamantopoulou

Saturday and Sunday 

 11:30–13:00 Beginner :  For students with some background in other dance techniques who are either new to the Martha Graham Technique or have limited experience with it.

 13:30–15:00 Intermediate : For students who have practiced the Graham Technique and are familiar with its core principles and key movement sequences.

In this workshop participants will have the opportunity to​ experience the fundamental principles of the Graham technique​ and learn some of the most basic exercises of the Graham​ syllabus, aiming​ to a deeper understanding and strengthening of​ the dancer’s body. 

The workshop concludes with the composition of longer movement​ phrases, Combinations of​ basic exercises of the Graham syllabus​: Floor work, Standing and Travelling work combinations, Turns,​ Jumps, and Falls, that will allow the students to reach the peak of​ their performing ability.

PENNY DIAMANTOPOULOU
Born and raised in Athens, Greece, Ms. Diamantopoulou began her dance training in classical ballet and modern dance, earning a BA in Dance Education in 1994. In 1995 she moved to New York on a Demonstrator’s scholarship to study at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, completing advanced training and teacher certification.

A former member of the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble and faculty at the Martha Graham School, she has collaborated extensively with the Martha Graham Center, reconstructing and staging Graham repertory internationally, and also conducting master classes and workshops in Graham Technique worldwide.
