GRAHAM100 Vienna
28 - 31 May 2026

This May, ANIMA FABRIK becomes part of the international GRAHAM100 celebration — a project dedicated to the legacy of Martha Graham, one of the most influential artists in the history of modern dance.

For four days, our studio transforms into a space for movement, performances, conversations and shared experiences with dancers and teachers from across Europe.

Alongside the intensive workshops, we open our doors for a series of public events — and we would love to invite you to join us ✨

In collaboration with Graham for Europe

WHY GRAHAM?

Because it’s one of the roots of everything we call modern dance today.

Graham technique teaches you how to move from the core, how to create shapes using breath, how to connect emotion and body — not as decoration, but as structure. It’s strong, grounded, expressive — it makes you feel real in your body

FREE EVENTS

open to everyone · free entry

Alongside the intensive, we open our doors to the public for three special events. These evenings are an invitation to experience Graham’s legacy — on stage, in dialogue, and in community.

TALKS
Thursday
· 28 May 18 - 19:30

An evening of conversations and discussions dedicated to Martha Graham’s work. Led by Graham artist and educator Penny Diamantopoulou & Graham For Europe’s Artistic Director Rafael Molina.

📷 Jeff Cravotta

PERFORMANCES
Saturday
· 30 May 18:00 - 19:30

Guest performances by Graham dancers, followed by a Q&A with the artists.

“Imperial Gesture” (5 mins) Original choreography by Martha Graham. Reconstructed and performed by Martha Graham Dance company former member and Régisseur Kim Jones.

The solo Imperial Gesture was created in 1935, featuring Martha Graham herself as a monarch demonstrating absolute power. The piece is a meditation on ego, megalomania, corruption and power. It was a response to the rise of fascism in Europe. Around that time, Martha Graham did turn down Nazi officials’ invitation to perform at the 1936 Olympic Games and was part of a very political dance scene in NYC.

“Traces” (7 mins). Choreography by Kim Jones. Performed by Martha Graham Dance company Marzia Memoli. Traces is part of a larger work in progress that explores the movement vocabularies of empathy and reflection..

SHOWINGS
Sunday · 31 May 15:15 - 16:00

A sharing of the creations developed during the intensive, together with a closing performance by ANIMA Dance Company.

“MODERN RE.MIX” (21mins) Choreography by Irena Tavpash. A contemporary homage to Martha Graham’s iconic 1957 film “A Dancer’s World” — reimagined by the dancers of today.

WORKSHOPS

Daily Graham Technique classes for different levels — from beginners to more experienced dancers.

If you’ve never tried Graham before, this is a rare chance to learn it from its roots. And if you already have experience, you’ll deepen your understanding with teachers directly connected to the Graham tradition.

The intensive is led by artists from the Martha Graham Dance Company in NYC: Kim Jones, Marzia Memoli, Penny Diamantopoulou

CREATION & PERFORMANCE

Create · Rehearse · Perform

You will step into the experience of performing — during this four days, you will also be part of a creative process. Together, we will develop a short piece that will be shared at the end of the intensive. Invite your friends, your family, people you love. Share this moment. It will be one of those experiences you remember for a long time.
