BIO — Kristián Pokorný

Born in Prague into a family of ballet dancers, Kristián Pokorný has called the stage his second home since the age of four. After completing his training in Prague, he continued his studies in Germany, earning a master’s degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim.

Kristián joined Ballett am Rhein in Düsseldorf, where he worked under ballet director Martin Schläpfer, who later brought him to Vienna. Since 2020, he has been a member of the Wiener Staatsballett.

Throughout his career, he has performed works by some of the most influential choreographers in classical and contemporary dance, including George Balanchine, John Cranko, Kenneth MacMillan, Merce Cunningham, Mark Morris, Lucinda Childs, Jerome Robbins, Christopher Wheeldon, and Alexei Ratmansky. He has also collaborated closely with choreographers such as Martin Schläpfer, Marco Goecke, Ohad Naharin, Adi Hanan, and Louis Stiens.

Driven by curiosity, Kristián continuously explores new movement languages, the merging of disciplines, and the development of a personal artistic voice shaped by both classical tradition and contemporary experimentation.
